Consortium of Vermont Colleges

Like many companies that hire Methodikal, the Consortium of Vermont Colleges (CVC) came to us on the recommendation of one of our current clients, Ski Vermont. CVC represents all of Vermont’s colleges and universities, and is charged with drumming up interest in those schools from prospective students and their parents. They hired us to help them refine their overall story, and to then bring that story to life in all of CVC’s communications.

Lacking a cohesive idea or image, we first developed several conceptual options, each exploring different ways to tell CVC’s brand story. They immediately gravitated to an idea we had developed called “Earn Your Vermont Degree,” a concept that made extensive use of Vermont’s incredible outdoor lifestyle. In short, the idea acknowledged that one could find books, classrooms, dorms, and all the typical trappings of college anywhere, but only in Vermont could one also ski, ride, hike, swim, and enjoy such an amazing quality of life.

After we’d brought the idea to life in collateral materials, CVC asked for our help in developing a new website that communicated the same story, while also drastically improving functionality. We had been looking for a project to tackle with Eternity Web Development for some time, and this felt like the perfect fit.

The site, build on the ModX platform, includes an extensive search infrastructure allowing prospective students to look for schools geographically or by exploring different majors. The site also includes a section called “The Feed,” a social-media aggregator that gives people a real-time sense of what is going on across all of Vermont or at any specific school. Ultimately, users are driven to each school’s website to apply and get more information, accomplishing the recruiting needs of CVC’s members. Importantly, CVC also can control and update the content on the site via a very user-friendly CMS, which is key for an organization that doesn’t have a large budget or staff.

Methodikal handled design and copywriting for the site, Eternity handled the technical development and on-going support, and both firms worked closely with the client to develop the architecture and strategy, and to manage the overall project.
