Efficiency Vermont

Efficiency Vermont is our state’s energy-efficiency utility, responsible for reducing consumption by encouraging conservation and efficiency upgrades.

The company hired Methodikal to rethink how to encourage consumers to purchase efficient lighting for their homes. Most people who would buy efficient bulbs (CFLs, LEDs, and the like) for ecological reasons had already done so. Efficiency Vermont was also trying to de-emphasize price in the purchase equation. At the same time, new packaging guidelines were also coming about, mandating that the old way to choose a light bulb (looking for wattage) was going away, too.

After looking at different conceptual options, we landed on the idea of appealing to people’s desires to improve their homes. We also wanted to stress that these new changes were actually really easy to understand – that changing a light bulb was still as easy as, well, changing a light bulb.

The campaign we created was called Love Your Light. The effort included in-store graphics to educate consumers at the point of purchase, online advertising, a special webpage, and video content to bring everything together.
